In 2010 Mick Barr debuted a new set comprised of a through-composed 40 minute piece for solo guitar. The recording of this work, which is the first proper release under his own name, has been lovingly pressed to wax for everyone to hear.
"What's amazing about Coiled Malescence is how much it does have to say. There's the sheer quantity of musical information Barr's virtuosity puts forward, and the advanced formal ideas, but then there's also a range of extremely subtle acoustic effects created by Barr's relentless, machinelike repetitions. And maybe most surpassingly, upon close scrutiny, his telegraphic riffs decipher themselves as a language of feeling."(D.S. Johnson, New Haven Advocate
